Marcus finished up his soda and crumpled the can in one hand just as Maggie kicked him. He swayed forward but caught his balance quickly before his face could be aquainted with the cement floor under the bleachers. "I know him, yeah...but I don't think the guy wants to be bothered. Let's just watch the scrimmage." Marcus turned his attention back to the field.

"Nice shot, Rach" Becky called to the tall, olive-skinned senior Rachel Adams, who had almost managed to slip the soccer ball past Melody on the other end of the field. "Defense, girls, get back!" She hollered, keeping both eyes on the ball as Melody tossed it with one hand to Holly, who passed it to another defender, Maria, who then passed it back to Holly who carried it up the field at a steady dribble. She tensed, leaning forward with her gloved hands outstretched slightly, preparing to be able to shift direction at the slightest warning.
She could hear Liam and Sammi and a few other spectators in the back of her mind, but she didn't let it break her concentration.

"Nice save Melly" Jessie called with an encouraging smile as she sprinted back up towards Becky's end of the field. Holly, then Maria, then Holly again had possession and were snaking their way up the field. Jessie looked across the field and saw Mal doing what she was doing. Which was waiting on the outskirts of the action for a chance to do something.
"Five minutes" warned Gibson from his position by the fence behind Becky.
Jessie saw a break in the defense and sprinted through them, running back around so that she was behind Holly. "You got me back" she whispered. Holly left the ball where it was and did a quick fake so that it looked like both she and the ball had gone left. The two defenders on her bought it and sidled to the left with her, leaving Jessie and the ball with some open space. "Go long Mal" she shouted, waving with one hand towards the net.

Mal saw Jessie and Holly's play and was running for the net before Jessie even suggested it. She saw the ball coming for her and trapped it against the ground with one foot before rolling it backwards to give herself a better angle. "Center it" she heard and wasn't sure if it was Holly or Jessie shouting it, but she trusted them both and sent the ball flying towards the net, praying that one of her teammates got it before Becky or the game would most likely end with Becky's team winning.

Immediately after sending the pass, Jessie continued her run to the net, calling "Center it" to Mal who had caught up with the ball and who was about to be engulfed by defenders. The ball came sailing towards her. She pushed off the ground with her feet and angled her head so that she was aiming towards the lower right hand corner of the net. She felt the ball bounce off the proper spot on her forehead and landed, sprawling on the muddy ground in a flat dive. Now she was glad they had done so many diving header drills, or that really would have hurt. Instead, she jumped to her feet, barely having felt the impact, and look around to see if she had scored.

Becky moved closer to the near post as Mal got control of the ball but when she centered it, Becky moved back to the center of the net, her eyes on Jessie, who was closing in on her, diving towards the ball. Her head made solid contact, sending the spiraling ball towards the net. Becky went into her own dive, all ten fingers stretched out as far as possible in the sweaty gloves and brushed the soccer ball as it slid past her into the corner of the net. She heard a few cheers of celebration and Gibson blow his whistle, but she wasn't really paying attention.
"Good practice girls. Since it was a tie scrimmage, no one has to run laps today. Stretch, listen to your captains, and you can leave. See you all tomorrow."
Becky shook herself out of her daze, going to collect the ball and add it to the pile by Gibson's stuff. She was the junior captain, so she joined Rachel (the senior captain) and Melody (the senior co-captain) standing in front of the rest of the team. Rachel took over, instructing the girls about the game this weekend and reminding them to get plenty of sleep and yadda, yadda, yadda. When Rach was done, she dismissed everyone, and handfuls of girls broke off to stretch on their own before leaving. Becky joined Jessie and Mal and Holly in a tightly knit cirlcle by the net. She plopped herself down in the grass and leaned sideways to touch her extended right foot. The burn felt good. "Nice shot by the way, Jess."

Seeing that the practice had ended, Sammi lept up from her spot and climbed over the fence. She hurried over to Becky, Holly, Mal and Jessie. "That was such a good practice guys. You are totally going to win the tournament this weekend. And all the ones after that." She leaned against the goal post and chatted with them as they stretched.

Liam listened as he looked at Thomas, why would he hide his face that much, he just shook it off as he concentrated on the game. The moves were just so great, he doubted even Marcus could beat em, nor even the boys soccer team which lost two games in a row, sadly. When the practice was he did like Sammi and climbed over the fence. Liam got close to the girls, with that amazed look he had. "Wow the practice was amazing, I'm sure you girls could beat the boys team easily." Liam said, smiling as he stood next to Becky, sometimes looking over at the spectators, still seeing Thomas sitting there. "Hmm.." The only sound that came out of his mouth, why all this hiding, there was probably a reason he just shrugged it off and looked at the girls. "I'm pretty sure the team will earn a lot of championship titles."

Thomas just shrugged wondering what to do as the game ended, he sighed calmly, at least he could congratulate the girls, he saw Liam looking toward him though he wasn't sure if it was at him. He got up from his seat and eventually climbed over the fence, getting closer to them, avoiding looking at Holly when he was 'close' enough, still having a small distance between em, he looked at Becky and Mal, avoiding the look at Holly, otherwise it would be too painful for him. "Great practice girls. You'll win the playoffs that's for sure."

Jessie looked up as some kids came over to congratulate them on their practice. She pulled an arm over her head to stretch it. "Thanks." She eyed Thomas carefully. Just because she was a freshman, didn't mean she didn't know what was going on throughout the rumor mills. She glanced to Holly next. Holly was staring at the ground, taking off her cleats.
She switched arms, looking back to Liam. "The boys are doing ok. They're just struggling for a little bit because Buzz got hurt, that's all."

Becky pulled one foot towards her butt, holding it there to stretch the hamstring, and using the other hand to hold the goalpost for balance. "Hey Lee" she smiled as he came to stand by her side. "You really think we were that good?"
"Stop fishing for compliments Dawes" Gibson said on his way past but he was smiling.
Becky let her let drop. "Sorry coach." She kissed Liam once lightly and then switched legs.
