Jaye, who had fallen on her butt after the ghost spun her, caught the message Maggie was signaling and scrambled to her feet, cutting her palms in the process. She ran and flying tackled the ghost that she couldn't see, hoping that she and Maggie were both accurate and she wouldn't miss and fly face-first into something hard and/or pointy.
She connected solidly with the ghost and they both flew backwards. Jaye had forgotten that the ghost was the approximate size of a 13-year-old girl and was kneed in the stomach as a reminder that the ghost was at least a foot shorter than her. It was a strange experience for Jaye trying to wrestle something she couldn't see to the ground and hold it there. She fished around in front of her until her right hand tangled in the ghost's hair and she slammed the head down into the floor a couple of times, remembering that Faye had told her ghosts could still feel pain.
Something slammed into the side of Jaye's head, something that felt like a fist. Jaye slammed the head harder and felt less resistance. Jaye suspected it was easier for her to hold the ghost down because she had at least three years on Maggie, and was a little bit bigger. She was about to slam the ghost's head into the glass-encrusted floor again when she heard sirens, and the thing under her vanished. Jaye was left sitting on air until she fell painfully on the glass beneath.
Remembering her story to the guy on the 911 call Jaye quickly got up, snatched the closest book and stumbled over to the old man still unconscious on the floor.
"Even after this, I still envy you." Jaye said as she swung the book with a medium amount of force at his head. When the cops asked her later, as Jaye knew they would, she would tell them he had attacked Maggie after Maggie recognized his portrait from the article they were looking at earlier and had told Jaye to call the cops. Unfortunately the man overheard and attacked Maggie, knocking Jaye back. Jaye fished for her cell phone because for some reason the phone line was out and she made the 911 call, meanwhile not seeing what was going on but knowing Maggie and the man were causing a ruckus (she figured that would explain the books and shattered mirror, and Maggie's possible injuries). After the call she'd say she tackled the man and hit him on the head with a book, effectively knocking him out. Jaye stood up and put her hands on her hips, admiring her handiwork for a moment before trotting over to Maggie, who was still on the floor. She was squatting by the girl when the first cops came in through the door.
