Liam listened carefully, the deal seemed good, he managed a smile being reassured by what she said, but knowing his father it might end up with the father being in prison. He seemed more happy when he heard about Becky being single, he couldn't help but scream a little woohoo. His cheeks turned red and he just coughed. "I mean huh.. my huh.... brother bought me a new video game...yes...a new video game.."

Mal glanced at him through the rearview mirror. When she spoke, her voice was straining with the urge to laugh. "And, this new video game is why you're suddenly so excited?" She took a left at the next intersection and then pulled into the parking lot of her father's law firm and cut the engine.
Sammi wasn't as polite as Mal. She started laughing outloud at his woohoo. "Oh just ask her out, already, Liam." She gave Liam's shoulder a friendly shove.

"Wait.. what ask who out." Liam said, asking innocently though he knew who she was talking about, he just laughed with her at the friendly shove as well, as they got out of the car. Liam couldn't help by raising his head and looking at the firm which was.. big, more bigger then he thought, his mouth was wide open just like when he saw the bra. "I knew your dad was popular.. but never knew, the place he works in.. was.. big... like.... really rich looking."

"You know who" Sammi replied, giving him another shove before scrambling out of the car. She hadn't been to visit Mr. Johnson in awhile.
Mal locked the car and pocketed the keys. "It's not that big..." She tilted her head backwards to take it all in. "Ok, so it's a little big. Come on, let's see if Shirley knows if he's still in or not. Shirley's the secretary" she explained. Pushing through the heavy double doors, she crossed to the rectangular desk along the far wall. "Hey, Shirley, is my dad here still?"
Shirley looked up from filing something. "Hey hun, you're lucky, he was thinking about leaving an hour ago, but then someone came in to have a conference with him so he's in his office still. You can head on back." Seeing Sammi and Liam, she added, "But they'll need visitor's badges." She printed two out and distributed them.
Mal waited for them to have their badges pinned on and then led them down several complex and narrow passages.

Liam just kept looking, until he realized he was alone outside. When he went inside he was still amazed by the place, and the interior looked pretty inviting as he looked at the secretary and listened to her. Something about badges, eventually he got the badge so did Sammi and soon he just followed Mal, occasionally looking to his right and to his left. The place was just amazing. "Wow, this ain't what I expected at first.." Liam said, his voice sounded like the one an amazed little kid would have. He just kept following as they went to some complex and narrow paths. "Wow.. I guess your dad loves some complexity in buildings." Liam said, as he kept on following, wondering when they would finally arrive.

"He didn't build the place, architects did" Mal corrected, but they finally stopped outside a large wooden door with a glass window towards the top and a brass plate that read: "Richard Johnson, Attorney of Law". Mal knocked twice.
A deep voice called out, "Come in" so they did. Richard Johnson was a tall man with closely cropped brown hair and inviting muddy brown eyes. When he saw his daughter, he rose from the chair he had been sitting in and embraced her. "Mal, honey, what a nice surprise! And Sammi, you look lovely kiddo." He took a step back from the girls and noticed Liam. "And who is this? A boyfriend?"
"NO" the girls said at once. Mal elaborated. "He's a friend from school, Dad, and he needs your help."

Liam followed until they were finally there. Mal knocked twice and when the door opened the trio just went in, as he looked at the office, it was a wonderful office, great place as well. Soon though he heard the father say something about boyfriend, he looked around wondering if there was a guy he didn't see until he heard both girls say no, he just looked, offended. "What I'm not that bad looking." Liam said, joking of course with them, they were only friends and that's kinda the way he liked things to be, he looked Richard, wondering if he should say something about his problem or just back away rapidly, well he couldn't do that. He just sighed. "Like.. your daughter said sir.. I do have a problem.."

Mal and Sammi looked to Liam and said "shut up" at the same time with identical grins when he was talking about his looks.
Richard eyed the girls curiously before taking off his reading glasses and setting them aside. Rubbing his eyes, he led Liam to a straight backed chair on the opposite side of his desk. "What's your problem? I will do my best to help but I can't guarantee anything. My daughter tends to think I'm a miracle worker. By the way, hon, how was soccer practice?"
Mal leaned up against the closed door, fiddling with the keys in her pocket. "Pretty good. I feel good about the game against Waterville."

Liam just made that sad face of his, though he was of course kidding, he listened to Richard and soon to him talk with his daughter. Liam just looked away for a bit, wondering if he would have the courage to say it, he sighed calmly. "Well sir, my dad.. kinda wants me dead.. he used to beat me a lot when I was a kid... because my mom died giving birth to me. When I got out of the hospital from the injuries I had, he threw a rock at me... and shouted.. that he wished I was dead.. I'm kinda used to it.." Liam said, avoiding eye contact for a while, he was still wondering if this was such a good idea, he sighed calmly. "Sammi just told me it was best if I talked about it to you."

Richard was silent for awhile, leaning back in his chair and studying Liam. Then he leaned forward and rested his elbows on the desk. "I can most definitely help you with that. There should be no difficulty in getting you far away from your father even if we went to court tonight, let alone in the month we'll have to work together. I will learn all I can about you and your past and we'll do what we can. If it is easier for you we can work here, but if you'd rather be more comfortable at my house, we can work there too."
Mal began wandering around her dad's office, looking at the different things he had.

"It's okay with me sir, we can work here or the house.. though I'd most likely prefer here." Liam was a bit worried now, hopefully Sammi could notice, after all his power manifested in the past, what if Mal's father found out, he could be at risk, he just looked at him trying to remain calm, he didn't know what to say, except nod. "He...he won't go to prison right?"

Richard blinked. "You don't want him to go to prison? Well...I can't make any promises but I will do my best. Although to be honest, I am not going to even worry about that. I'm going to focus on what's best for your safety." He pulled a pad of legal paper from his top drawer and uncapped a pen. "Now this next part might be a little tough for you so if you want I can ask the girls to leave." He looked towards his daughter who was thumbing through a calender.
She got the hint. "Oh yeah...Sammi and I can leave Liam if you want." She headed for the door, her hand on the knob.

"Alright." Liam just said, he didn't have to reveal the invisibility part, it's not like Richard would end up digging in his past and find out about that power of his. He just looked as the girls left em alone. He was wondering what sort of questions would he ask. He just waited, for his question, since he probably had to talk about his childhood.

Richard poised his pen over the first blank line while thinking about where he wanted to start. "Ok, Liam...I want you to think back very hard to the first time your father beat you and tell me exactly what he said and what he did. If at any time you need to stop for a moment, you may. We have all the time in the world." He nodded gently as a way to say, "you may begin."

"All started when I was 8. Dad was screaming, I was scared, my brother tried to protect me, but eventually I just..escaped the house, when I came back, my father was still violent, so my brother took care of me. My father.. well would beat me up, pretty badly anytime he would see me, sometimes I would never eat when he was there. I learned to live on my own eventually and to cook at a young age by watching television."
