Jaye nodded. "So I'm guessing that's how your book and cell caught fire. Can you not control it very well? How long has it been since your powers manifested?"
Jaye remembered Maggie, who in her shock had fallen over. "Are your ribs ok from that fall? And I'm sorry to spring this on you, but it seemed like an opportune moment. I've been meaning to tell you for a while now."

Jaye had just revealed she could light things on fire with a single glance and yet she was worried about Maggie's ribs? Maggie nodded slowly, in a daze. "Yeah, yeah, they're fine. The doctors did a nice job fixing them." Thinking of the doctors and her ribs made her remember this morning at school and she shot Jaye a meaningful look before adding, "Oh and I need to talk to you about...a mutual friend of ours..." She basically ignored the other pyro for the moment.

"I can control it very well, but lately, somethings, keep setting it off, my father, because I hate him and.. something else, a girl's voice I keep hearing in my head, like a five years old girl, or something.. I just don't know." He didn't want her to think he was crazy but he just had to tell her the truth, he looked at Maggie, and realizing this might be private, he just stood there, looking at the both of em. If his father founds about this, Maggie might be in some danger, he just looked at the girl, this was a big mistake, he looked away after a while and decided to go to the science fiction section again.

Faye walked over to the three people just standing around the scorched book and cellphone, a mop in her hand. "You know, it might be a good idea to lock the door and put up the 'CLOSED' sign if you're going to be talking about your powers. You don't want any civilians to find out."
Then she stuck the mop into Jaye's hands and turned around. "I'll be right back with some air freshener. That is, unless you want the place to smell like smoke for the rest of the day."

Jaye caught Maggie's meaning immediately and nodded a discreet okay before getting distracted by the customer that had started the fire. She was surprised by his admission that he could hear voices, or one voice in particular.
"That's strange," she said for lack of a better response. He wandered away from her and Maggie and she hoped she hadn't offended him but didn't have time to worry about it as Faye burst into the shop with a mop.
"You know, it might be a good idea to lock the door and put up the 'CLOSED' sign if you're going to be talking about your powers. You don't want any civilians to find out," Faye said.
"There's no one else in the shop, but that's a good idea. I'll close for the day," Jaye said. She turned to Maggie. "Would you mind locking the door and flipping the sign?" She asked the girl. Jaye mopped up the mess before Faye got back and walked over to the guy.
"What's your name anyway?" she asked.

Maggie hurried off to flip the closed sign and lock the door. Then she made her way back over to where Jaye was talking to the guy who had set the book on fire. She crossed her arms and began tapping one foot.
"That's not very polite."
Maggie gave an involuntary yelp of surprise and one hand flew to her chest. "Geez, give me a heart attack, why don't you" she snapped, without really caring that she might appear to be talking to herself. Jaye, at least would know who she was yelling at.
Scott chuckled amicably. "Sorry, kiddo. I just have some news about Amy. You asked me to keep an eye on her, so I did."

V looked at the books, as Jaye approached him, he hesitated calmly, remembering what his father said, to always tell lies and such, to never trust anyone and to manipulate everyone, he just shook his head, what his father didn't know, wouldn't hurt. "Call me V." He just said, still looking at some of the books, he sighed calmly wondering what he would do. His father probably noticed that he didn't answer the call, but he just shook his head again and just kept looking at the cover of some more Karen Traviss novels. "Real name is Verloren.. but I prefer it if you just call me V."

"V's a cool nickname," Jaye said, distracted by Maggie's outburst. She wondered if V noticed that Maggie had just started talking to "herself".

"Hey, Jaye," Faye called, since she couldn't see her friend, "Where did you go? I have the air freshener."
She glanced over at Maggie, saw the ghost, and approached them. She didn't want the pyro-guy to notice that Maggie was talking to herself. "Hey, Maggie, what's up? Why don't we go talk over in the coffee shop?" Then Faye looked Scott in the eye, winked, and turned around to go back to The Pub. Hopefully he'd get the hint to be discreet.
She set the can of air freshener on the counter. "Jaye, Maggie and I are headed over to The Pub to talk. The air freshener is on your counter, when you get a chance."

Verloren just looked at Maggie as she seemed to be talking to herself, soon though another girl arrived, the one that is probably called Faye, he just looked at her and scratched his hair. He shook his head. "For a moment there, I thought your friend was crazy and had... psychological problems, meh should of known she was talking to someone else." V just said, he shrugged and looked at Jaye calmly. "When did you learn about your powers?" V just said as he looked at her, he still felt weird about finding another one with the same ability, but it also made him curious.

Maggie nodded mutely at Faye's offer, still trying to get her heart rate back to normal. It was only as she was passing through the arch that she remembered she needed to fill Jaye in, as well as Faye, about Amy. She pivoted, her teal flipflops nearly making her slip as she did so, and called, "Hey Jaye, uh...remember how I needed to talk to you about that...friend of ours? Well, come get me when you're done with your...customer so I can tell you what I needed to."
Scott grinned good-naturedly at Faye and held up one finger as if to say, "be there in a minute". Then he glided over to where Jaye and V were standing, oblivious to his presence. He was still sort of ticked that V had set fire to a book, as he was an avid reader himself...or he had been. He flew around the two of them in hyper speed to make the air surrounding them chillier and then lifted the pile of sooty ash that used to be a book and cell phone in his hands and carried them to the nearest trash can, dropping them inside and dusting off his pale hands. He hoped it freaked them out...or at least the book burner.
Maggie, witnessing all this, whisper-shouted, "Uncle Scott, get. over. here! Now." But he ignored her. He only made his appearence in between them when he had finished disposing of the trash heap. Maggie grabbed her uncle's shoulder, hiding behind Faye so that the other two couldn't see what was going on, and propelled him into the Pub.

Faye shook her head and sighed as she followed Maggie and Scott over to The Pub. Ghosts with senses of humor were always the toughest ones to deal with.

Jaye nodded and waved Maggie and Faye out before she felt the air getting chillier around her. Her eyes widened and she glanced quickly at Faye but the girl didn't seem alarmed so she figured it was the ghost that always seemed to follow Maggie around. She'd have to find out the name sometime.
"My powers first manifested when I was eight," Jaye said. She saw the pile of soot and ash lifting itself into the air and knew it was the ghost. She did not think it would be good if V found out about Maggie and Faye's powers so she started talking to distract him. "My mother tried to kill me when she found out so I ended up living with my Uncle Kirck. He acted like my powers weren't anything to be scared of and helped teach me how to control them." It was the most she'd told anyone, even Faye, about herself and she hoped that she had distracted V from seeing the ghost's handiwork.

When V felt the air getting chillier, it reminded him of his home, whenever his father would come in, the house was acting up, like if something was there or like if it had a mind of its own. When Jaye started talking about the first time her powers manifested, V was distracted and didn't see the book and cellphone moving on their 'own'. Her story seemed odd, why would a mother try and kill her child, but V just sighed, probably the same would of happened to him. "I see, interesting, the power manifesting itself at a young age, I was 3 years old when my powers manifested.. ended up.." V sighed calmly, looking away, he hadn't talked about it to anyone but then again, he had to tell her the truth, she told him her story so he had to respect that and tell is. "My older cousin, kept teasing me, so I got angry and... the power just manifested.. burning the house down... killing my mom and sister and the others.. by accident. My dad was the only survivor and he taught me how to control my power, seems like he just kept me around, to do his own bidding. V kept looking away, about to pick the burnt book and cellphone, though he didn't see them, he just looked at her. "Huh... the book and cellphone they... vanished."

Jaye was sorry to hear what had happened to V's family, but she wasn't all that surprised considering he had been three at the time. When her powers had manifested she had set a few things on fire without even thinking about it until she and her family realized what was happening. All of Jaye's attention, however, focused on fabricating a lie when V noticed the cell phone and book had vanished.
"Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure Maggie picked that up for me. She does do some cleaning and arranging for me in the shop, so it was probably just natural for her to do it." Jaye lied coolly. When she put her mind to it she could lie convincingly enough that she was never questioned.
Distracting him further, Jaye said quickly. "It wasn't your fault, about your family I mean. It was just bad luck that your powers manifested when you were so young."
